Working at Ambition

What does agile, hybrid working mean at Ambition Institute?

Agile working is an approach to getting work done with maximum flexibility and minimum constraints. It means we truly become focused on what we do and our delivery, rather than on the hours we work. Agile working allows employees to take responsibility for choosing the most appropriate working hours with the agreement of their manager.

Please note that all employees must work during Ambition's core hours (10am to 4pm) and it is an employee’s responsibility to discuss agile work arrangements in advance with their line manager who will sign off all arrangements.

Your offices are in Birmingham, London and Manchester but I don’t live near these cities. Should I still apply?

Yes, do consider applying. We have colleagues who live in Bristol, Brighton and other locations around the UK. If successful, you’ll be attached to one of our three office locations. You’ll be required to cover travel expenses whenever you attend your attached office.

How often will I need to be in the office?

We ask all colleagues to attend the office at least one day a month, in addition to any team days. However, this will vary depending on the seniority of the role and from team to team. Please refer to the role advert on our website for more details or ask at your interview with the panel.

Our approach to pay

We aim to pay competitively relative to our sector, and at levels that are financially sustainable.  All our job adverts will indicate the salary on offer. We locate roles within our salary framework which has five bands, from A (entry level, early career) through to E (Executive Committee, senior leadership).  Within the bands, we have levels and salary ranges. Salaries are determined by the complexity and scope of a job, internal relativity and the external market for those particular skills. New joiners are typically based at the starting point for their role. We review salaries annually and offer organisation-wide increases when appropriate and affordable, with Band A staff also receiving increases to mid and upper point on their first and second work anniversaries respectively.

Recruitment process

Apply online

Once you’ve found a role you're interested in, we’ll ask for some basic personal details, a copy of your CV and a few questions. To support our commitment to blind recruitment, all applications are managed through our applicant tracking system and we cannot accept CVs and cover letter through email.

Application review

Your CV and written responses will be reviewed anonymously by the hiring manager and up to two other colleagues. This means the team will not see your personal details, helping protect against discriminatory biases, promote fair candidate selection, and foster increased diversity. If the team think the skills, knowledge and experience you’ve demonstrated in your application are what we are looking for, you will be invited to progress further.

Interviews

If the hiring manager would like to progress your application to interview, you’ll receive an email notification inviting you to book an interview slot. Unless stated otherwise, your interview will take place virtually. Depending on the job you’ve applied for, you may also be required to complete a pre-interview task. This will be communicated to you in your interview confirmation email.

Offer and onboarding

If you’re offered a position with us, the hiring manager will work with you to confirm your start date and we’ll send your offer letter and contract as soon as possible. We’ll start processing your pre-employment checks which will include references, right to work in the UK and dependent on the role applied for, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and barring service) check. Your hiring manager will keep in touch with you throughout onboarding. They’ll give you an idea of what to expect on your first day such as what time you’ll start. We’ll order all necessary technology equipment and have this with you in time for your first day.
